Our Story

They say "when life throws you lemons, you make lemonade", for me I turnt to candles. Hi, my name is Kereshma and I make earth-friendly, vegan candles. Early 2021, I hit a rough patch in life and turnt to candles for comfort. It felt like a warm hug. Eventually I decided I wanted to produce small-batch candles using sustainable materials because self-care should not hurt our planet. As a woman who was born in Suriname, I wanted my brand to capture essence of my hometown. "Kandelaar" meaning candlesticks in dutch was a small attribute to apprehend my land or origin. Soon after Kandelaar + Co. was born, as an eco-friendly plant based candle company based in New York City.

Each candle is hand-poured using hemp coco-soy wax, a blend of hemp, coconut, and soy. While the decorative candles are made from pure soy wax. Every purchase is mindfully crafted using premium grade fragrance oils infused with essential oils, with the option of wooden or lead free cotton wicks to ensure its luxurious characteristics. Additionally, I pack every order in the most eco-conscious manner. Creating a small business, and having the ability to ship candles I wick, pour and label individually, allows me to share something I love, and hope you do as well.
